Stockton Borough Council and NHS Joint Carers' Strategy: Summary of Consultation 2012

 

TRAINING SESSION: Communication. Understand the challenges communication difficulties pose and look at ethical dilemmas. Wednesday 22nd May, 2-4pm at The George Hardwick Foundation (repeated 16th August in Hartlepool and 6th November in Stockton).

TRAINING SESSION: The value of life history and advance statements. Understand the importance of documenting life/history/story formats for use in unfamiliar care settings, and planning for the future (including end of life care). Wednesday 24th April, 2-4pm at The George Hardwick Foundation (repeated 19th July in Hartlepool and 9th October in Stockton).

 

TRAINING SESSION: Emotional well-being and carers rights. Understand coping with emotions that carers experience and carers legal right to an assessment. Wednesday 29th May, 2-4pm at The George Hardwick Foundation (repeated 23rd August in Hartlepool and 13th May in Stockton).

   

TRAINING SESSION: Promoting a healthier lifestyle. Understand the benefits of maintaining good physical health for you and the person you care for, and how to access support with this. Wednesday 5th June, 2-4pm at The George Hardwick Foundation (repeated 30th August in Hartlepool and 20th November in Stockton).

 

TRAINING SESSION: Promoting independence and services to give you peace of mind. Understand how to carry out tasks to maximise remaining abilities, assistive technology in the home, environmental adaptions, and monitoring and community alarm services. Wednesday 12th June, 2-4pm at The George Hardwick Foundation (repeated 6th September in Hartlepool and 27th November in Stockton).

GHF Introduce a new reviewing system In order to improve the quality of outcomes for carers, we have introduced a new reviewing system. One of our Carer Support Workers will give you a quick call 2-weeks after you register with us to make sure that everything is going ok and we will contact you again periodically throughout the year to make sure nothing else has cropped up. Saints and Scroungers The George Hardwick Foundation appear on BBC1s Saints and Scroungers for a second time with local carers Carole and Paul Wilson. Carol and Paul care for their two sons (Matthew and Ryan) and were featured as Saints in the programme. See Series 4, Episode 10 of the programe. [Published March 2013]

   

The Parkinson's Society is running a monthly support group at The George Hardwick Foundation on the last Thursday of every month (2pm - 4pm). No need to book, just pop in. [Published March 2013]

 

Dementia Friendly Neighbourhood GHF recently received funding to develop a pack to help neighbors and friends understand what dementia is and how it affects family life. We would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions about what should be included in the pack and how the pack should look. Calling all Carers... The University of Teesside is looking for Carers who have current or recent experience of Health or Social Care Services to share their experience (good or bad) to help to train students. These students will be the nurses, physiotherapists, social workers etc. of the future! [September 2012]

GHF Have reopened the therapy room at North Tees Hospital after almost 1-year of closure The therapy room was closed last year as it was very run down after years of continual use and we re-directed carers and patients to Thyme-Out, the fantastic new therapy centre at our centre in Wellington Square. [September 2012]

GHF Welcome five new members to the team... Jodie King (21), Becky Ellington (19), Samantha Collin (19), Simon Willison (21) and Gemma Madden (19), all from the Stockton Borough, have benefited from funding awarded to the three Companies as part of the Youth Employment Initiative. The funding aims to get young people aged 16-24 into employment. [September 2012]

A year of new beginnings Just over a year after the development of our new centre in Wellington Square The Foundation is going from strength to strength. We have seen lots of changes, developed new services, forged new partnerships… and welcomed more new carers to the centre than ever before. [September 2012]

Sainsbury's at White House Farm in Stockton have adopted GHF as their charity of the year! They have already held a number of fundraising events and have raised over £500 to help support carers in Stockton. [September 2012]
